Bruno and I have been in the corporate world for over 20 years and were ready for a change, where we could stop dreaming about our dreams and make them come true instead. We have finally decided to embark on our long adventure, and in summer 2016 packed for our Round-the-World trip!
Why Travel Around the World
Maybe it’s because the grass is always greener on the other side, or simply because we love to exchange and learn from other cultures and traditions. The world has so much to offer, and we are true believers that our differences make for a richer world, and understanding these differences help us build towards stronger communities. We are not believers per se but do believe in the human being. The kindness of strangers. Laughing through our lack of common languages. The search for peace and happiness regardless of colors, religions, and nationalities.
Our World Itinerary
Where are we headed might you ask? Well, see below a rough estimate of our itinerary. This will for sure change as we go, with more details for each country we plan to visit, probably adding countries on the way, maybe skipping others if local situations are not welcoming. In any case, just drawing this journey on the map is giving goosebumps….
October-November: China. Update: We had to skip Tibet for now as our late RTW departure meant we would have been in Tibet in November (especially as it takes about a month to get the permit). So Tibet will be for late discovery…
January & February: India (Pune, Rajasthan Camel Trekking, Pushkar, Kerala Motorbike Roadtrip)
March: Sri Lanka Leopards & Dolphins watching
April: Indonesia Diving in Raja Ampat
May: Indonesia Trekking in the Baliem Valley & Papua New Guinea
June: Indonesia Orangutans
July: Indonesia Komodo and Flores & Sri Lanka
August-September: Sri Lanka Kitesurfing

We are hoping to reach Africa in 2020, from Egypt to South Africa, crossing Sudan, Ethiopia down to South Africa following the coast through Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, and a jump to Madagascar.
Our plan is to buy a 4WD and drive independently through these countries, meet local people, learn ancient traditions, and explore new kiteboarding spots as we go.
For now, the itinerary idea is to head to South America, going up from Terra del Fuego back to Home Sweet Home in California, heading north through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize, and Mexico
The current plan will most likely take us over three years to complete. However, we hope our budget can keep us on the road longer. Or we might get tired of living out of our backpacks, long for hot showers and soft beds, or simply spend our money faster than we can count. This would bring us back to our home in California unless we decide to stay in another country. We have been 15 years in the US after all, it might be time to resettle somewhere else.
We will see where our journey will take us, frogging and leaping our way through countries and cultures.
Our Travel Hope & Purpose
We have been traveling for those many years already, are childfree (by choice), and felt it was time to go while we were still to encounter and witness new culture and traditions and enjoy the outdoors and activities we love so much.
With the rise of intolerance and the increase of violence the world is facing today, we believe travel and tourism need to go beyond enjoying the local entertainment available locally. It can and should be a way to appreciate our common humanity. We hope we can gain insights, share and build connections on our journey.
- Go beyond our Western habits to learn about around other great cultural heritage in India, China, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Bolivia, and Colombia, to name just a few
- Observe the endemic wildlife of Madagascar, visit the cradle of civilization in Ethiopia, follow the steps of the Tikal Mayan in Guatemala
- Trek the Himalayas, dive in Belize, kitesurf in Namibia, horseback ride in Mongolia, and kayak in Costa Rica
- Teach English and Computer Science
- Share the beauty of the world and the kindness of people
